History
The village's roots date back to the 10th century and was originally a fishing village. For centuries, the sea was both a provider and a threat; in 1741, a violent storm engulfed dozens of houses and the village church.
Fisherman's heritage: You can still see "vissershuisjes" (small historic fishermen's houses) in the town centre.
Artist's colony: In the 19th and early 20th centuries, it served as a popular colony for painters attracted by the unique "Dutch light".
